Gothic Two-Handed-Sword Bajbars, Class B
Sword class B
Appearance and construction:
The most distinctive feature of the sword is its flamberge blade. This wavy blade not only gives the weapon an exotic and intimidating look, but is also a characteristic feature of some historical two-handed swords. The blade is made of spring steel CSN 14260, which has been hardened in oil to about 47 HRC (the steel is not corrosion resistant). Above the broad steel cross guard (approx. 33 cm), the shoulders of which slope slightly down towards the blade, there is an unground part of the blade (the ricasso), which is covered with leather in the photo and has typical protrusions or hooks (parry hooks) that enable special fighting techniques. The long hilt offers enough space for both hands and is wrapped in high-quality cowhide for a firm grip. The whole thing is finished off with a simple, functional pear-shaped steel pommel to balance the long blade.
Ordering options and historical context:
Important notice: If you want a sword with a flaming blade like in the photo, this option is only available in a blunt version (class B) for historical and stage fencing. In this case, the cutting-edge thickness is 2-3 mm and the tip is rounded. The sharp version of the Bajbars sword would therefore probably have a normal straight blade. Two-handed swords with both straight and flame blades were used by European infantry, especially the German Landsknechts, in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Uses:
This sword is ideal for re-enacting late Gothic or Renaissance infantry troops, as an appealing display piece, for LARP or for theatre and stage performances (especially in the blunt flaming variant). Its size and appearance are guaranteed to attract attention.
Safety and maintenance:
Handling a sword of this size and weight requires strength, experience and extreme caution.
- Safety: Always keep it out of reach of children. For your own safety and the safety of those around you, always use protective equipment when handling or using this sword (including the blunt version). All activities with the sword are at your own risk.
- Use fencing skills: avoid cutting blows, take cover with the flat of the blade. Fencing skills are technically correct and without unnecessary force.
- Maintenance: Check the condition of the blade and hilt regularly. File off any nicks on the blade (normal wear and tear on the blunt version). Clean and preserve the rusty steel blade with oil after use. Over time, the cross guard or pommel may loosen and require maintenance.
This is a Czech product. The sword is covered by a two-year warranty for claims of proven material defects, but not for damage caused by use (class B). This two-handed sword offers you the opportunity to own a truly appealing piece, whether it be for martial arts or as an extraordinary addition to your collection.
