The robustness of shoes based on historical patterns may not meet modern requirements! They are quite sensitive on tarmac, concrete blocks and gravel. These kinds of ground surfaces did not exist in the Middle Ages! We therefore recommend retrofitting them with rubber soles at the cobbler of your choice if you walk a lot on hard surfaces.
