Viking Sword Ballinderry, museum replic

The inscription VLFBERHT identifies the manufacturer's name - the famous manufacturing center of the 10th century. This brand was at that time a kind of guarantee for the highest quality of steel. The manufacturing technology of Viking swords VLFBERHT was by the modern Western civilization as late as during the so-called the industrial revolution re-discovered. It is therefore not surprising that some archaeologists feel a little confused by this fact.

Sword pommel

The pommel has five lobes, of which the biggest is 1.8cm and the shortest 1.1cm high. They are decorated with organic motives – which are based on various other original pieces, as the engraving was lost.

Sword blade

On both the front and the back side of the blade is an engraved inscription. The front side of the blade bears the inscription of the smith + VLFBERHT + in its fuller. The back side of the blade shows the sign IXXXI.
