Templar Overcoat black
One of the purposes of overcoats was to identify the wearer as a knight. Members of the Templar Order used to wear black overcoats with red crosses visible from both sides to facilitate the identification of the wearer.
The second purpose of the overcoat was to protect the knight from the inclement weather and the heat of the mail armor. The last but not least purpose was the protection in fight and against arrows. The Templar overcoats saved lives of their wearers as recorded in historical chronicles. Even if a knight was injured, the overcoat cloth helped to slow down the arrow.
