History of the spear

This medieval Spear (or dart if you like) was commonly used by light infantry groups. They were the distinctive weapons of the Spanish Almogavars (class of soldiers from the Crown of Aragon) against the Muslims occupying the country in the 13th-14th C. This piece in particular is based on an original dated circa 1200, found at Alcoy in the community of Valencia (Spain) and has similarities with African weapons of different age, which may mean to be the a Muslim weapon. This hurled light weapons were widely used by foot troops, horse soldiers and even by horse soldiers, as documented in period chronicles.

Please note: Originals of polearms often reached lengths of more than two meters (79 inches). This is more than the transport restriction allows. If you order this weapon replica with a wooden pole, it will be delivered in parts with a ca 198cm (78ichens) long wooden pole. You will have to assemble the parts yourself. All parts including rivets are included in the delivery. All needed pins to connect up the pieces including the metal strips that run down the shaft and the leather fringes are supplied
