16th Century Italian Cinquedea
This replica faithfully reproduces all aspects of the original's form and dimensions, including its unique hilt construction. The iconic guard is ingeniously crafted from welded components, just like the original. The blade heel extends through the guard and is riveted to it, providing exceptional strength and durability. The blade heel and rivet heads are then ground flush and polished. The blade also features a full tang, hardwood grip scales, and decorative brass filigree inlaid rivets. More information...

16th Century Italian Cinquedea
The cinquedea was a distinctive Italian short sword or large dagger, characterized by its broad blade. This particular example, dating back to around 1500-1530, is part of the Royal Armouries Collection.
While cinqueda were often carried as civilian sidearms, and some were elaborately decorated, this one is relatively plain and functional. It could have been used as a military sidearm by an infantryman or gunner.
The impressive 26-inch blade features a complex transition from three to two fullers, along with a thin, distally tapered cross-section. This design makes it a remarkably light and agile weapon for its size.
The sheath is constructed with a wooden core and covered in leather. The tip is reinforced with an ornate brass chape featuring cut-outs and an acorn tip. The leather extends upward at the throat, covering part of the guard at the ricasso.
Crafted by Windlass Steelcrafts, the original can be admired in the Royal Armouries Collection (Object Number IX.148).
