Shogun Kiji Katana
Every part of this sword is expertly crafted by highly skilled smiths using centuries-old methods. The blade is forged from 1095 high carbon steel and differentially clay-tempered using traditional methods, with the spine Rockwelling in the 45-48 HRC range and the harder cutting edge at 56-58 HRC. This ancient tempering method creates the hamon - the hard visible line left when the clay is removed. Each blade is honed and must be able to cleanly cut through a sheet of paper before it leaves the factory.
The tsuba and pommel feature the Pheasant, the ancient Japanese symbol of harmony and the national bird of modern Japan. The tsuba, pommel and the fuchigashira (sword-hilt collar next to the tsuba and the pommel) are made of brass and given an aged finish. The grip is genuine Rayskin wrapped with cord.
- The wood scabbard is painted matte black with glossy “raindrops”.
- Includes cotton storage bag.
Also includes cleaning and maintenance kit for the care of Shogun Katanas, presented in an elegant wooden box that includes:
- Bottle of oil, to protect the blade
- Cloth for applying the oil
- Rice paper for cleaning the blade
- Uchiko powder for sword maintenance, for blade polishing and to remove the old oil that sticks
- Mekugi-nuki Brass Hammer (To remove a mekugi from a katana or Iaito. The mekugi is a wooden pin found on the tsuka to fix the blade to the handle of the katana)
