Greaves Made of 1.6mm, Length 39cm Based on a Model From the 13th Century

Most people believe that metal greaves were not used until the late Middle Ages, when knights began wearing full-suit plate armour. In fact, they were used by medieval warriors as early as 1245 and 1250. The Maciejowski Bible (Pierpont Morgan Library, New York, Mrs. M. 638) shows the giant Goliath in such armour. Originally, the greaves protected only the front part - the shins, which are among the most painful and easily accessible parts of the body. Such protection was mainly used by infantry troops. Over time, closed versions of this protection were also developed, which also protected the back part of the leg (the calf). This is how greaves were created that were connected to the calf protector = closed leg tubes.

Simply attach each of these protectors over your clothing with a pair of sturdy leather straps and iron buckles.

Care instructions:

The finish of these greaves was treated with anti-corrosion oil before packaging. The oil is preferably wiped off with paper towels after unpacking. However, please note that the unpainted iron finish must be further protected from corrosion. For preservation, you can use WD40, Ballistol or another oil designed to protect iron and steel objects from corrosion.
