Medieval Leather Belt Saint George, various colours
This elegant medieval belt is named after Saint George (George of Lydda), a Roman officer of Greek origin who served in the Praetorian Guard for Emperor Diocletian and was executed in 303 AD for refusing to renounce his Christian faith. Canonized as a saint in 494 AD, his veneration as a Great Martyr spread throughout the Middle East and Europe over the centuries. By the time of the crusades (11th/12th c.), Saint George had become one of the most worshipped military saints. He was praised as a model of chivalry, and the myths and legends surrounding his life and deeds (most popular - the legend of St. George and the Dragon) continued to be passed down through the generations in the Middle Ages. High and late medieval depictions of him - often portrayed mounted on a white horse - are just countless.
This approx. 4 cm wide belt is crafted from sturdy, 2 mm thick leather. It is fitted with a large buckle featuring the famous medieval iconography of Saint George on his horse slaying the dragon with his lance. The belt is adorned with a series of alternating heraldic eagles and stylized fleurs-de-lis. All fittings are made of brass.
The belt is approx. 135 cm long and does not have any punch holes. The back of the buckle is equipped with a pin that anchors into the hole in the end tip. The tip comes unmounted and must be fitted by the customer (hardware is included). This allows the wearer, if needed, to adjust (cut) the belt to a comfortable, custom fit before mounting the tip. Alternatively, the belt can be punched to accommodate the back pin, or just worn "knotted" in true medieval style.
This fine knight's belt is a classy, authentic addition to any medieval garb and an ideal accessory for medieval markets, re-enactment events and LARP gatherings.
