13th-14th Century Great Helm with Brass Templar Cross
The helmet reached its most elegant form towards the end of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th century. At this time, the knight's head was fully enclosed and well protected on all sides, making this type of helmet better suited to the chaos of close combat than the older versions with only a faceplate, which focused mainly on the knight's defence against attacks from the front.
