Chainmail Leggings, Medieval Chausses, Riveted and Alternating, ID 9 mm, Mild-steel

These chain mail chausses/leggings are inspired by the type of protection worn by the knights and sergeants in the 12th and 13th centuries. They appear for the first time on William ‘the conqueror’ on the Bayeux Tapestry in 1066. By that time, it was a luxury and that’s not a hazard if only Duke William himself is wearing those chainmail hoses and many of the other Norman knights were not. By the opening of the 12th and 13th centuries, it was becoming standard equipment of a medieval knight perfectly completing the long sleeves knee length hauberk making the knight almost invulnerable. Chainmail Leggings, Medieval Chausses, Riveted and Alternating, ID 9 mm, Mild-steel

These chainmail chain leggings chausses are inspired by the models of the 12th and 13th centuries. They first appear on the Bayeux Tapestry of William the Conqueror from the year 1066. At that time, chausses were a luxurious and very expensive outfit that only Duke William himself and only wealthy Norman knights could afford. In the early 13th century, chain armour for the legs became standard equipment for the medieval knight and perfectly complemented the long-sleeved chainmail tunic (Hauberg). This armour provided the perfect protection for the warrior on the battlefield.

The robust 18 gauge (approx. 1mm) mild steel rings (inner diameter approx. 9mm) with alternating flat rings are meticulously riveted with dome head rivets. The rings are woven in a 4in1 pattern, which has proven to be optimally durable and at the same time has an acceptable weight for chain armour.
