Praetorian Guard Greaves, Brass

Originally created around the 3rd c. BC to act as a force of personal bodyguards to the generals of the Roman Republic, the Praetorians were employed in camp or in battle and would serve as a final reserve force against attacks made upon commanders during campaigns. During the Roman Empire, this hand-picked elite unit provided protection to the Emperor. Being the only armed soldiers admitted within the walls of Rome, they were also granted a higher pay and a shorter length of service than standard legionaries. The Praetorian Guard was eventually disbanded in the 4th c. AD by Emperor Constantine the Great.

These beautiful Roman greaves are elaborately embossed: While one features a guardsman and serpents, the other is adorned with the effigy of Hercules, also framed by serpents. Both knee protections show the Roman eagle.

An ideal accessory for Roman re-enactment, LARP or stage that will make your transformation into a proud warrior look even more authentic.
