Barbute, 15th century
An example of one of the more elegant helmets in history, this is based on a 15th-century barbute from northern Italy. A similar barbute resides in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Decorative brass rivets encircle the top and steel rivets line the edges and a short ridge accents the round skull.
