Italian One-Hand-and-a-Half Sword with scabbard
This reconstruction of a late medieval sword is forged by hands. The guard and the octagonal pommel are made of iron. The spring steel blade is oil-tempered up to approx. 48° Rockwell, forged to the hilt and screwed with the pommel. The wooden grip is leather covered. The blade has got a distinctive fuller measuring approximately one third of the blade length, which offers both flexibility and a lesser weight. The edges of the blades are not sharpened. Italian One-Hand-and-a-Half Sword with scabbard
This sword is a replica of an Italian longsword from the 15th century. Nowadays the original can be seen in the Museo Civico L. Mazzoli in the city of Brescia, North Italy.
Even in late medieval times, sword production was work-sharing manufacturing: the blade originates from a blade-smithy in Passau, South- Germany and was mounted with the typical hilt parts of the Italian fashion of that time.
Typologically this sword can be classified as Oakeshott type XVIIIa, maybe type XVIa.
The sword comes with a leather-wrapped wooden scabbard.
This is the regular version of this sword. The same sword is also available in a practical version featuring a blunt blade and a rounded tip (product no. 0116341906).
