Milanese Gauntlet Mittens, mid-15th century

These iron mittens clamshell-shaped cuffs are made of articulate plates connected by loose riveted joints. Due to the thickness of the material used (1.6mm) they are strong enough for occasional fights. These mittens come including inner leather gloves made of firm split leather for good hand protection and shock absorption. The thumb of the leather gloves is sewn at the end to the iron thumb flap of the mittens. The rest of the glove just slips under the leather straps riveted to the inside of the mittens.
