Aged Russian Shashka, aged finish, Cossack Sabre with Bayonet
The shashka (Circassian for long knife) is a sabre of Caucasian origin which was adopted by the Russian military in the 19th century and ultimately became the legendary weapon of the famed Cossacks. Its most characteristic feature was its hilt which lacked a conventional guard and was equipped with a distinctive downturned pommel. Owing to its unique overall design, the shashka was most effective when wielded from horseback and thus perfectly suited for the cavalry. The beautiful piece we offer here is a reproduction of an original Soviet 1927 Pattern (M1927) Cossack sabre manufactured in 1934 in the Zlatoust Armoury, USSR. This type of NKVD shashka was still used in the ranks of the Red Army during World War II. More information...

Aged Russian Shashka, aged finish, Cossack Sabre with Bayonet
The single-edged, full tang EN45 spring steel blade is unsharpened and was given an aged patina to simulate signs of wear. Both the pommel and the bolster are cast from brass and were given an antiqued finish. The grooved grip is made of wood. The inscription on the handle may vary.
An approx. 50cm long socket bayonet for a so-called Mosin-Nagant repeating rifle is included in delivery. This sabre comes complete with a brown wood-and-leather scabbard. The bayonet holders, throat and chape are made of antiqued brass.
Please note that this sword is not a battle ready weapon. It is designed as a collector's or decoration/display piece and is not suited for combat reenactment. Besides its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.
