Visored Bascinet 14th Century
The 14th century bascinet was the ideal helmet for a heavily armoured medieval knight. It was popular because of its perfect head protection for the time, good ventilation and the possibility of lifting up the perforated visor and removing it completely. In combination with the Chain Mail Coif, it offers optimum protection for LARP and re-enactment and also looks good.
The helmet is made from 2 mm thick mild steel and has a quilted cloth lining inside. The helmet fits a head circumference of approx. 58 cm to 61 cm. The helmet is approx. 26.5 cm high. The base of the helmet with the visor closed measures approx. 22×17.5 cm. Visibility is guaranteed by 8 viewing windows in the visor measuring approx. 9 × 8 mm.
- The inside liner is made of cloth
- The visor can be plapped up. It is fastened with straps and brass buckle at the lower position
- Material thickness 2mm
- There are 10 brass Verveles on the brass bowl
- Weight approx. 3560 g

A number of brass vervelles are riveted to the bottom of the bell, which allows an aventail to be attached to the helmet. No aventail is included! Inside is the helmet painted black against corrosion. The helmet is equipped with a padded fabric lining for a comfortable fit on the head.
Overall, the shape of the helmet is designed to deflect much of the kinetic energy of a blow. This principle was already well known to the armourers of the 14th century.
