Olmutz Nasal helm

This replica of the Olmutz helmet is based on the original from the 11th century found in Olomouc (Czechia) and on similar finds from Orchowski, Hradský and Lednice Lake. It seems that this type of one-piece helmet with a nasal was widespread from the 9th to the 13th century. The helmet was popular in most parts of Europe due to its versatility, good head protection for the time and minimal restriction of vision. This nasal helmet is also depicted on the Bayeux Tapestry, which depicts the Norman invasion of Saxon England. During the Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror had to lift this helmet to prove that he was still alive after rumours of his death spread through his army!  More information...
