Round brass omega fibula, Viking fortune teller brooch

A Viking soothsayer is easily recognisable to those around him. His distinctive appearance is completed by a brass brooch like this one. He uses it to fasten his cloak, as it was common in the Viking Age. The brass shines more than the iron and adds to the magical moments you spend with the soothsayer. The Viking Age soothsayer's brooch (also known as an omega fibula) is made of pure brass. Its inner diameter is around 3.8 cm and the pin is around 8 cm long. More information...

Round brass omega fibula, Viking fortune teller brooch

Circular fibulae like this were used by many historical peoples and cultures such as the Romans, Iberians, Goths, Franks and Vikings. This shape was very popular with the Romans and was particularly widespread among the Germanic peoples of the 3rd to 4th centuries. In northern and north-western Europe, it was common until around the 8th century.

  • Overall dimensions approx. 45,9 x 51.9mm
  • Inner diameter approx. 36.5mm
  • Length of the prong approx. 90mm
  • The material thickness of the prong is approx. 2.54mm
  • Weight approx. 26 g

How is this ring fibula closed? Stitch into the fabric at the needle where the ring fibula is to hold the garment. Then thread the needle between the ends of the ring fibula and turn the ring of the brooch 90 degrees under the tip of the needle. When you let go of the ring, the fabric immediately presses the needle against the ring and the ring fibula remains closed.
