The Katzbalger was used as a short sword as part of the equipment of the German and Swiss Landsknechte. It is a sword with a short and wide blade. The blade tappers to the point. The point is rounded but thin ground, which is not visible from the side view. The guard is often S-shaped and ended with small pommels.
