Cleopatra was appointed co-ruler of her father, Ptolemy XII, when she was seventeen. According to her father's will, when he died, she became queen along with her brother Ptolemy XIII. However, co-government meant marriage in the conditions of Egypt at the time. Cleopatra didn't like it, so she fled.
