This is a decorative reproduction of a Gothic plate armour, typical of the 16th century. Gothic armours are characterised by elegant curves and sharp angles and reflect the Gothic style in architecture and art of the time.

Let us describe the different parts of the armour:

• Helmet: This is the so-called helmet with the characteristic ‘dog muzzle’. The helmet provided good protection for the head and neck while also allowing good visibility.
• Cuirass: This is the main part of the armour that protects the upper body. It consists of a breastplate and a backplate, which are connected at the sides and shoulders by straps and buckles. A slotted cuirass overlay is forged onto the breastplate to protect against spear hits.
• Bracers: These cover the shoulders and upper arms. They consist of several movable plates so that the arms can move freely.
• Elbow cops: These protect the elbow joint and consist of several movable plates.
• Vambraces: These cover the forearms and consist of several movable plates.
• Gauntlets: Metal gloves with movable fingers provide protection for the hands while allowing the wearer to hold a weapon.
• Torso: Protects the lower torso and stomach.
• Thigh armour: Covers the thighs. It consists of overlapping plates.
• Knee cops: Protect the knees and consist of several movable plates.
• Greaves: Protect the shins.
• Steel boots: Metal boots with movable joints that protect the feet and ankles.
