15th Century Arming Doublet with Lacing Points
Why Choose This Particular Doublet?
- Made for Armour: As you can see in the photos (whether in the red, black, or natural version), this doublet is designed specifically for lacing on plate armour. It features strategically placed eyelets and sturdy laces with brass aiglets (tips) at the shoulders and waist. These are the 'arming points' to which you'll tie your pauldrons, vambraces, cuisses, greaves, or breastplate. No more makeshift or unhistorical attachments!
- Historically Accurate Look and Cut: Note the vertical quilting, the full-length front lacing, and the typical stand-up collar. The cut is deliberately shorter, ending at the natural waist – exactly as required by 15th-century fashion and function, ensuring it doesn't restrict movement and allows for the correct fitting of hose and leg harness. Don't worry if it seems short – it's meant to be!
- Quality Materials and Comfort: The doublet is constructed from two layers of robust cotton canvas and padded with natural cotton felt. This makes it not only durable but also breathable and surprisingly comfortable. The padding also absorbs shocks transmitted from the armour to your body.
- Honest Handcrafting: Each piece is made using traditional methods, guaranteeing its quality and authenticity. Slight variations in dimensions are proof of its handmade nature.
Put on this doublet and feel how the weight of your armour distributes evenly and how the individual pieces stay firmly in place. It's the foundation without which no knight in full 15th-century plate armour could manage. Whether you're heading to a historical event, LARP, or simply expanding your collection, this doublet will transport you straight to the age of valiant knights!
Historical Use:
In the 15th century, the arming doublet (or a padded garment of this type) was an absolutely essential piece of equipment for knights and men-at-arms wearing plate armour. Its main function wasn't just padding and shock absorption (like older, thicker gambesons), but primarily served as the "framework" to which individual pieces of plate armour were attached using laces (points) threaded through the prepared eyelets – pauldrons, plate sleeves, thigh plates, greaves, etc. This ensured the coherence of the entire harness and allowed it to move better with the wearer's body.

Modern Use:
Today, you'll primarily use this type of padded doublet for:
- Historical Fencing and Re-enactment focusing on the 15th Century: As the essential foundation under plate armour for maximum authenticity.
- LARP: For knight and warrior characters in plate armour.
- Theatre and Film: To create believable historical costumes.
- Collecting: As a key element for assembling a complete suit of armour from the period.
Interesting Historical Tidbit:
The system of tying armour pieces to the arming doublet with laces ('points') was so sophisticated that it allowed a knight relatively good mobility even in full plate armour. Well-fitting armour laced to a quality doublet permitted mounting and dismounting a horse, fighting on foot, and even rising from the ground unaided, debunking later myths about knights being completely clumsy.
Product Care:
As this is a quilted item with natural padding and cotton canvas, spot cleaning is recommended using a damp cloth and mild soap. Machine washing is not advised as it could lead to shrinkage, shape distortion, and uneven clumping of the padding. If washing is absolutely necessary, do it by hand only in cold water, very gently, and without wringing. Dry flat, away from direct heat sources. Be aware that even hand washing might slightly affect the shape and dimensions.
Don't wait, acquire the cornerstone of your knightly harness! With this doublet, your armour will not only be complete but also functional and comfortable. Take a step closer to history and order yours today!
